Something Precious at last?
Precious Vodka Review
Throughout the year we get dozens of bottles of vodka sent to us by producers and distributors asking if we will list their product on our website as well as promoting it to our burgeoning on-trade market. Most of them think it is easy to be the next Smirnoff or a premium offering like Grey Goose.
It never ceases to amaze me the amount of people that think they can get rich quick by bottling average quality vodka and assuming that will be enough. We’ve even had the other extreme of a Vodka (that shall remain nameless) that was launched a couple of years ago. Superb vodka, awful bottle, no story, no passion in the distillation process and just an assumption people will buy it. Not surprisingly it sank without trace.
Then, out of nowhere we had an enquiry regarding an unusual looking bottle of vodka. This happened to be called Precious vodka. It certainly looked very different and complete with unique selling point of having a fully certifiable gem stone in every bottle. Which could be any one of Emerald, Topaz, Peridot, Ruby or Sapphire. So we had a bottle sitting on the desk that looked very enticing; but was it any good in liquid form?
Distilled in Bulgaria and six times distilled, it gave me hope that some quality time had been spent on this vodka. Precious vodka is also triple charcoal filtered and uses water from a natural spring.
Upon opening the bottle and pouring a glass you can really notice a sweet aroma whilst not overpowering does have hints of vanilla.
The first taste made me realise I was onto something really special, Precious Vodka is exceptionally smooth with no burn at all. A quite sweet vodka with a honey background and the finish peaks again with a sweet grain aftertaste. I drink this neat at room temperature or over ice, both make a lovely drink that would be ruined with an ordinary mixer.
Precious vodka goes straight to the top of my list of new vodkas for 2011 and with time running out I think it will be tough to knock it off top spot.
If I was asked by anybody to recommend a new super premium vodka, then I would without doubt point them in the direction of Precious vodka. It’s a great drink, head and shoulders above any other new vodka I have tried recently as is an eye catching bottle to look at!
