New Vodkas for March 2010

It has been a quiet start to 2010 when it comes to new Vodka’s being released for us to add to our extensive selection.

Well it appears that the ball is well and truly rolling now with new Vodka’s hitting our virtual shelves.

Smoked Chase Vodka

To get us started this month we have a Limited Edition from the English favourite, Chase Distilleries. Their latest offering is the intriguing Smoked Chase Vodka which has a run of only 500 bottles.

Based on the classic Chase Vodka this variant has been smoked with English Oak that brings out a unique tasting Vodka that reminds you of a top end Reposado Tequila.

As you would expect with Chase the Vodka is five times distilled and maintains the use of potatoes grown on the farm at the distillery.

The only thing we would say is don’t hang about if you want to try it! With such a limited run it really is not worth missing out on. Sit back and relish this rare offering.

The second of our new Vodka’s this month is from the biggest Vodka producer in the world. Smirnoff have added a third flavour to the range after the hugely successful launch of Smirnoff Apple and Smirnoff Lime in 2009. There really is little to disappoint in this latest offering as by now the majority of Vodka drinkers know what to expect with Smirnoff, it really is a no nonsense decent drink. Smirnoff Blueberry makes a great little drink with a mix of lemonade and is surprisingly smooth, offering a nice twist to the standard offering.

Babicka Vodka from The Vodka Emporium

Babicka Vodka

Babicka Wormwood Vodka

This month we are going to finish on an offering that is completely different to the previous and in fact most Vodka’s out there.

The Vodka in question is the Czech vodka, Babicka. This is based on a 500 year old witches brew recipe!

Babicka is distilled with the curative qualities of Wormwood and a further mix of herbs.
The outcome is one that is a fairly smooth vodka that has a not unlikeable aftertaste. Just think of sweet aniseed and a hint of vanilla. Sounds a bit odd but is really quite pleasant.

There is nothing similar in the price bracket of Babicka vodka and if you fancy something different but not a sweet flavour that overpowers, then Babicka is definitely worth a try.

As ever we love to hear your feedback on any Vodka you have tried as well as your thoughts on any we’ve mentioned.

Smirnoff Flavours available from Vodka Emporium

Hi Vodka fans!

This is just a quick note to invite you all to the official launch party of the Smirnoff Flavoured range – featuring Smiroff Green Apple and Smirnoff Lime Vodka!

“The Smirnoff Co. announces that it will be simultaneously unveiling five huge ice sculptures across the UK on the 11th September celebrating the national launch of two new flavours of vodka; Green Apple Smirnoff and Lime Smirnoff.

“Appearing in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, Liverpool and London, the ice sculptures will recreate iconic landmarks from each of the five major UK cities in the form of scaled-down replicas. In Glasgow’s Buchannan Galleries, an ice carving of the Armadillo measuring 8 metres by 2.4 metres high will be constructed. The infamous Forth Bridge will be rebuilt on the rooftop of Edinburgh’s Prince’s Street Mall, Manchester’s futuristic Urbis will be reproduced at The Great Northern and Liverpool One will be home to an ice replica of the top of the Liver Building.

“Meanwhile coming to the capital’s beautiful Covent Garden piazza will be an ice sculpture of London’s skyline featuring Canary Wharf, Big Ben, Tower Bridge, The London Eye, St. Pauls Cathedral and The Gherkin, measuring 10 metres in length and 3 metres in height.

“The installations will see some of the world’s top ice sculptors, Duncan and Jamie Hamilton, Ben Edson, Jack Hackney and Darren Jackson work through the night to carve the structures from a mix of clear and white ice. The ice blocks for the sculptures, being prepared in giant freezers at the Hamilton’s workshop in South West London, will be transported to each location on the 11th September. Upon arrival, they’ll be slotted into place and shaped into their illustrious designs, incorporating limes, green apples and frozen bottles of Smirnoff flavoured vodka.”

What’s more, the first 50 people to arrive at the show and quote “THE VODKA EMPORIUM BLOG” at the ice sculpture from 6pm will be entered into a prize draw to win Green Apple Smirnoff and Lime Smirnoff take home packs to share with friends.

It has to be said that there can’t be too many people who drink vodka that don’t know about the world famous brand of Smirnoff. When it comes to the UK most are familiar with the standard supermarket staple which is Smirnoff Red. Most probably know about Smirnoff Blue and a few die hard fans are aware of Smirnoff Black Vodka.

However when it comes to flavours I think you’ll be surprised to know that Smirnoff actually produce nearly a dozen in different countries throughout the world. This summer Smirnoff have unveiled two of these to the UK market. One of which is the Smirnoff Green Apple Vodka. This drink is a refreshing blend of green apples and vodka that is an ideal base for numerous cocktails. If cocktails aren’t your fancy then try it with just soda or a mixer of your choice.

Now I’m not going to bore you with the same details relating to Smirnoff flavoured vodka so ill get straight to the product here. Smirnoff Green Apple Flavored Vodka is made with the essence of green apple flavours and as with the standard Red Smirnoff is distilled three times. If your expecting a difference in quality to the usual Smirnoff you find in bars, you wont find that here. Again this is a great base for cocktails and with some mixers such as lemonade and ice it would do the trick.

Xellent Vodka from the Vodka Emporium

Xellent Vodka

Finally this month it’s with great disappointment that we find out that the superb Xellent Vodka is no longer being imported into the UK. We do hope this isn’t permanent and we’re still awaiting confirmation as to whether they have seized production altogether, when we do have news we’ll let everyone know. Interestingly it was illegal to distill vodka in Switzerland until as recently as 1999!

Xellent Vodka is Swiss produced and the base ingredient is pure first-class Swiss Picasso and Matador rye. This is all grown in the foothills of central Switzerland. After the distillation process the vodka is then diluted with water from the Titlis glacier in Engelberg.
With Xellent you end up with a virtually neutral spirit that tastes surprisingly sweet with a lemony undertone.

Xellent really is fantastically smooth for vodka, and it really shouldn’t be missed if you haven’t tried it. If you have then you’ll certainly want to make a purchase soon as we only have the last few cases in stock.

Currently we have an offer of free delivery on any order that contains Xellent vodka.
